World Peace Day is observed globally, to devote this day to strengthen the ideals of peace, with all nations and peoples. This day aligns with goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goal - ‘Peace, Justice and Strong institutions’ - calls for promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.
The Theme for this year is “The Right to Peace - The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70”. Positive Impact will launch 6 free webinars exploring the theme of peace and sustainability in the event industry.
World Water Week is an annual forum that focuses on the issues of the globe’s water issues. The theme this year is ‘Water For Society - Including All’, with over 3,300 individuals and around 380 convening organisations from 135 countries that will participate in the week. The individuals and organisations are from a range of sectors that are coming to Stockholm this year to network, exchange ideas, foster new thinking and develop solutions to the most pressing water-related challenges of today.
The World Education Congress is an event for meeting and event professionals to take part in innovative education, networking and businesses opportunities, this time based in Toronto.

United Nations has proclaimed May 22nd The World Biodiversity Day, which aims to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. The theme this year is ‘Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health’, which aims to improve knowledge and spread awareness of the dependency of our food systems, nutrition, and health on biodiversity and healthy ecosystems.
On the 21st May, held in association with IMEX Frankfurt, Positive Impact will facilitate the first Sustainability Policy Roundtable with the intention that policy recommendations for how the event industry can be sustainable are identified, discussed and created.

6 destinations and their politicians, the chair of the Events Industry Council, the chair of the Joint Meetings Industry Council, United Nations representatives and a representative from the Positive Impact ambassador community will be invited to attend the interactive session.
During the Roundtable, focus points are likely to include how policy changes could support industry to address plastic waste, food waste and human rights (including preventing trafficking). This event also marks the launch of UNWTO affiliate member Positive Impact’s education product for global governments to understand the opportunity to create destinations, which deliver on the opportunity of being a sustainable event destination.
The Events Industry Council and Joint Meeting Industry Council will be invited to sign a pledge to share resources across the global event industry and inspire their members to take action to achieve and report on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, so by spring 2020 the global event industry has a roadmap to achieving the goals.

The theme for this year is End Plastic Pollution, which includes creating support for global effort to eliminate primarily single-use plastics, as well as global regulation for disposal of plastics.
This events supports several Sustainable Development Goals - Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), and Climate Action (SDG 13).
