Sustainable Development Goal: Sustainable Cities and Communities

In recent years, we have experienced an unprecedented level of urban growth globally, with 54% of the population (4 billion people) living in cities as of 2015. This rapid rate urbanization has also led to several challenges such as an increase of people living in “slums” and increased poverty, increased air pollution and inadequate infrastructure which also makes cities more vulnerable to disasters. It is important that we work together to improve urban planning and management so that cities, both in developed and developing countries, can become more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

So, we challenge you to:

1) Pick an everyday product and find out ways in which it is sustainable. And if not, in what ways can it be made into a more sustainable product?

2) Ask about the waste infrastructure in your event venue: are there ways that it can be improved and made more sustainable?

Share your discoveries with us on social media, using the hashtags #CollaborateForGood and #ShareYourPositiveImpact. This way you will be an agent of change by educating others on how small individual actions in the events industry can contribute to the development of sustainable cities worldwide.
